George Vaults Wedding Photography for an International Celebration
Elena and Fabrizio had planned a small, but perfectly formed International wedding, and wanted a natural style to their George Vaults wedding photography. With the bride from Russia and the Groom from Italy, there were also guests travelling from as far as Brazil, the Philippines, India and Georgia! Everyone was descending on The George Vaults in Rochester, Kent for an intimate ceremony in the 14th Century underground vaults near the city’s castle and cathedral.
The Atmospheric Vaults Needs an Experienced Photographer
Once a church, the wine bar now plays host to the Grade 2 listed 14th Century crypt. The basement space is perfect for a small, intimate wedding celebration. As a photojournalist, I’ve photographed in lots of tricky situations and locations. And it’s the 20 years experience that helped whilst photographing the ceremony in this atmospheric crypt. You see, it’s a pretty dark space, and while I usually like to work with available light only to keep the atmosphere genuine in the photos, there really was no choice but to add a little light of my own. You can see the difference it makes in the slideshow, and for the most important part of the wedding day, I felt it was essential to photograph it well.
Wedding Portraits Around Historic Rochester
There’s a few more portraits in this set than I’d usually show. Elena and Fabrizio wanted to make the most of living in such a superb city, so we spent some time walking and finding some great locations for portraits. There’s really a lot of choice in Rochester, setting for many of Charles Dickens’ novels. The cathedral forms the centre of the city, with Rochester Castle providing another historic backdrop to the portraits. Before long, we were back at The George Vaults, where the meal and dancing were to take place.
