The Perfect Wedding Venue?
Maunsel House could be the perfect setting for an English country house wedding. Nestled in 100 acres of Somerset parkland, it has wonderful reputation. It’s described as ‘famous for being a party house’ with historic links dating back to Alfred the Great. It really offers the perfect venue for the kind of unscripted candid photographs that I specialise in as a documentary wedding photographer. So when Becky and Ross asked me to provide their Maunsel House wedding photography, I couldn’t wait!
An Historic party house
Parts of the house pre-date 1066. Additions have been made throughout the last few hundred years. It does offer a multitude of opportunities for interesting photography. It is also a very challenging place to photograph late in the year. As the light fades the colour balance between the atmospheric artificial light and the cool Somerset Autumn and Winter light makes an interesting mix. So this late October wedding had plenty of challenges, photographically speaking. Watching how the light falls in some of the elaborately decorated rooms gave me a great canvas for capturing those real moments.
The humanist wedding ceremony in the Ball Room featured a fantastic male voice chorus, The Rivertones, during the proceedings. After which the guests were able to enjoy some of the House’s gardens and surrounding countryside. It was then back inside for the wedding breakfast and speeches. I made use of the little pools of light and nooks and crannies around the house being sure I focussed on the relationships and interactions of the guests. The mansion has a certain eclectic charm that I hope I’ve caught in these images.
