Getting Married at Parliament
London has some super wedding venues, and I really enjoyed photographing Jo and Chris getting married at Parliament at the start of December. I’ve photographed around the Houses of Parliament many times before, mostly as a news photographer at The Times in London. It’s recently become possible to hire several rooms within the House of Commons as well as the House of Lords to either hold your wedding ceremony or to celebrate afterwards with a wedding reception.
Wedding Prep in South West London
I started my photography in South West London where Jo and her bridesmaids were getting ready. Their hair and makeup was pretty much done as I arrived, just in time for Jo’s mum to help her get dressed in her stunning Lyndsey Clark dress. Her father’s reaction made great moment to capture before I headed off to Westminster to catch Chris at the pub before the ceremony. He was in St Stephen’s Tavern, just across the road from Parliament After a couple of pints, it was a quick walk through security into the stunning Westminster Hall.
Wedding Ceremony in the Jubilee Room
The Jubilee Room is a great setting for a smaller civil ceremony. Set in the annex of Westminster Hall, the stone fireplace and Augustus Pugin wallpaper create a unique atmosphere for the wedding ceremony. Afterwards, Jo and Chris headed back into Westminster Hall for some quick family group photos and portraits. It was then a short walk over to a double decker London bus heading for the drinks reception and wedding breakfast at The Elgin.

Paul, thank you so much for the wonderful coverage of Jo and Chris’s wedding. So many bright flashes of detail that bring back memories of a very special day. You have captured the love, the excitement, the joy, the exuberance, the overwhelming emotion. Amazing venues, wonderful people, and a daytime story to remember forever. So very different from the stylised photography of earlier generations. You are very special. X
