Winter wedding at Glenapp Castle

I love Winter weddings, and I was really looking forward to Sabina and Fraser’s Winter wedding at Glenapp Castle in Scotland. They can be challenging to photograph in the extremely low light, but the atmosphere that you get at a winter wedding is superb and lends itself to my style of unposed documentary wedding photography really well. And what’s better than a Winter wedding? A Scottish castle wedding in the Winter of course!

Winter Wedding Packages in Scotland

I drove up to the stunning Ayrshire countryside the night before the wedding and met Sabina and Fraser there to have a look around the beautiful castle and grounds. Though it wasn’t until the next morning that I could see it in full daylight. It really is one of the best wedding venues in West Scotland, with lots of interesting features both inside and out, and makes a perfect all-inclusive Winter wedding venue.  From the huge windows overlooking the gardens, you can see the distinctive shape of Ailsa Craig in the distance – a view that Fraser remembers from his childhood in the surrounding countryside.

Scottish Documentary Wedding Photography

I had the excellent company of fellow documentary wedding photographer Ally who was helping me document Sabina and Fraser’s wedding day. It meant that we could cover a couple of angles during the ceremony without moving around too much, and the documentary coverage could continue while the family group photos were taken in the gardens.

Cèilidh in a Scottish Castle Wedding

After the ceremony, guests made their way down to the glasshouses for the drinks reception and speeches, before heading back up to the mansion house for the wedding breakfast. And a fun Scottish wedding in a castle just wouldn’t be complete without a cèilidh! You can see just how much fun this wedding was from the highlights slideshow above.
