Surrey Garden Marquee Wedding Photography

There were a few weeks earlier in the Summer where I couldn’t remember what it was like to enjoy a warm and sunny Saturday at a Summer wedding. And surely, when Eleanor and Gareth booked me for their Surrey garden marquee wedding photography, no one expected such a lot of rain in July and August. Unless you’re British, of course, and such weather is now just as likely in the middle of the Summer as in April! But stormy weather also makes great material for my documentary style wedding photography.

It all started out pretty clear, with Rosie photographing the guys getting ready at a hotel, while I documented Eleanor and her bridesmaids at her parents house in rural Surrey. But I knew what was on the way, and just hoped that there would be enough gaps in the promised stormy clouds to allow some sunshine through. And right on cue, the heavens opened just as Eleanor and her Dad were about to step outside to board the vintage Rolls Royce ready to take them to the wedding ceremony. Windows were fastened, and a nifty wooden shield was constructed in the back seat of the car to protect Eleanor and her Dad from the elements on the short drive to East Grinstead.

Planning A Garden Wedding in a Marquee?

Though the ceremony venue was only a few miles away, there hadn’t been any rain there at all. As the wedding ceremony drew to a close, I hoped it would stay clear enough to do the family photos and some portraits outside before we all headed back to the garden marquee for the wedding breakfast and dancing. Thankfully it did stay clear for a while before another downpour gave way to the kind of glorious sunlight that can only follow torrential rain!
