Sussex Garden Marquee Wedding in the Summer
I really love photographing a wedding reception in a marquee during a great English Summer. The atmosphere is great, and it seems to create some pretty good documentary moments. But a Sussex Garden marquee wedding reception is much more weather dependent than a reception at a country house or hotel venue. For Jennifer and Max’s wedding at the height of the Summer, the mid week rain and thunderstorms cleared nicely for the day of their wedding at St Mary’s Church in Clymping, West Sussex.
Familiar Faces
I was able to capture a little of Max’s preparation with his brothers at the family home where the reception would be held later in the day, before heading off to catch Jen and the bridesmaids at a nearby hotel. There were familiar faces amongst the guests at the church, some of whom were at Kirsten and Neal’s wedding last summer. Then after the ceremony, the newly-weds were driven by one of Max’s brothers on to the reception at his parents house.
The beautifully converted farmhouse made a perfect setting for an outdoor reception. The speeches delivered some pretty amusing anecdotes, including Max’s impromptu impression of one of the Spice Girls, before everyone headed to the marquee for dinner. A novel idea for serving dinner saw one guest from each table don an apron and serve up a mouthwatering beef wellington. I photographed the first dance and a little of the evening party before my Sussex garden marquee wedding photography ended.
