Summer Wedding in Hertfordshire

We’ve been blessed with a warm and sunny start to the Summer in Southern England, and that’s evident in Alex and Darren’s pictures from their Summer wedding in Hertfordshire at the splendid Hatfield House a couple of weeks ago. It can be pretty challenging light to work in – lots of harsh shadows and squinting subjects, but there’s nothing like some good natural light to bring out the colours and vibrance at a Summer wedding. As a documentary photographer, I have to photograph where the guests go, and so work hard to use the light well, in any situation. That’s what makes these kind of story telling pictures so magical – they’re natural, unposed moments that bring back super memories of a fun wedding day.

Wedding Preparations at Lawn House

Alex finished getting ready for her wedding at Lawn House in the grounds of Hatfield House. It’s a lovely guest house, and makes it a pleasure to capture those final moments before everyone’s ready to leave. As it’s only a short distance from the Old Palace, Alex and her bridesmaids walked over to meet the registrars. The ceremony was lovely, and we all soon headed outside for the drinks reception in the surrounding gardens. We had time for some group pictures and portraits before the wedding breakfast started back in the Old Palace. The light was streaming in through the high windows, another challenging scene, but rewarding when photographed correctly.
