Summer Garden Wedding in Cambridgeshire
This Summer Garden Wedding in Cambridgeshire was such a joy to photograph. Nina first got in touch after her Dad recommended me when she was looking for a wedding photographer. I’d worked with Nina’s Dad, David, when I was a photographer at The Times newspaper, and David was a photographer at the Independent. Nina and Jack knew they wanted unposed, natural documentary wedding photography, so we were a great fit.
Bridal Preparations at Home
Photography started with Nina getting ready at home with her family. Wedding prep is a great place to start the days photography, and is an ideal way for everyone to get used to having a photographer around for the day. When the prep is in the family home, there’s even more opportunity to make meaningful compositions that take some of the family background and history into consideration. Just before Nina was ready to leave, I headed over to St Peter and St Paul Church in Fenstanton to get ready for the ceremony. I photograph a lot of Church weddings and they’re always full of great moments. After the ceremony, the newly wed couple joined guests in the church gardens for some drinks in the sun, before leaving for the garden wedding reception.
Outdoor Wedding Reception in the Garden
It was hot, and the light bright and harsh – not the best combination for outdoor photography. But by using the hard light to my advantage, it was still possible to get a great set of story-telling photos from this part of the day. There was more drinks in the garden before everyone settled at the tables for the wedding speeches. After the wedding breakfast, a Ceilidh band got everyone up and dancing, and made for some great photos. I stayed and covered Nina and Jack’s First Dance before coverage ended.
