St Helen’s Wheathampstead Wedding
Naomi and Dom got in touch about their St Helen’s Wheathampstead wedding after seeing my photos from Caroline and Patrick’s Guards’ Chapel Wellington Barracks wedding on the blog. One of their friends had been a guest there, and they liked my style of unposed, natural wedding photography. They were planning a small, covid friendly wedding in the Hertfordshire village of Wheathampstead, not far from where I live in Hitchin in Herts. Their original plans of a wedding in Japan had obviously changed due to the pandemic, so they took advantage of the break between lockdowns to have a small, church wedding in November.
Hertfordshire Church Wedding
St Helen’s in Wheathampstead is a beautiful setting for a wedding. The church pre-dates the Norman conquest, but there’s no record of when it was first established. Before joining the guests arriving at the church, I first met Dom and his family for a pre-wedding drink in the nearby Reading Rooms. Even with social distancing and fewer guests than usual, photographing some of the Grooms preparations before the wedding ceremony makes a great starting point to the story. I then headed over to Naomi’s parents house to capture her final preparations before she headed to the church.
Afternoon Tea
After a lovely ceremony conducted by Reverend Richard, we did some very quick and easy family group photos outside the church. There was confetti and a traditional send-off in the wedding car, before the guests headed back into the church for afternoon tea. Naomi and Dom then made use of the walled garden for some portraits together before re-joining their guests in the church. Even though they were limited to just 15 guests, and the whole day lasted just a couple of hours, you can see that they had a great wedding day. The advantage of a good documentary wedding photographer is that they will be able to produce a great set of story-telling photos no matter how short the day.
