London Same Sex Wedding
D-J and John’s London same sex wedding earlier this year was a fantastic day to photograph. I began at the Boundary Hotel, photographing their final preparations before joining their families on the roof bar for some pre-wedding drinks. Orange was playing a big part in the day. It reflected D-J’s Dutch heritage, as well as an airline theme, seeing as they had met on a flight from Paris in 2011.
All You Need Is Love
After some group photographs on the roof, we headed over to the Law Society in a double decker bus. There we joined D-J and John’s friends for the wedding ceremony in the Reading Room. A string quartet played Bruno Mars’s ‘I think I want to Marry You’ as they walked up the aisle. At the end of the ceremony, the doors at the back of the Reading Room opened. Then a choir started singing ‘All You Need is Love’. It was arranged by John and inspired by one of D-J’s favourite films Love Actually.
The wedding party then headed back to the Boundary club on the bus. We were entertained by a magician on the roof, before the meal and speeches in the basement restaurant. My coverage ended after D-J’s family staged a musical performance, getting everyone onto the dance floor to start the evening’s celebrations.
