Indian Wedding Ceremony at Froyle Park
Indian Wedding Ceremony at Froyle Park
Ana and Doug’s Indian wedding ceremony at Froyle Park in Hampshire was a long time coming! As with so many couples over the last two years, Covid has meant numerous date changes, venue changes and compromise. This was one wedding I was really looking forward to photographing, and when Doug let me know the final details I knew it would still be a fantastic day to photograph. I was originally going to photograph a multi-day Indian wedding – in the end we covered a civil ceremony in Cambridge, before the Indian wedding ceremony at Froyle Park and reception at the nearby Harbour Hotel in Guildford. I was already photographing Becca and Lou’s glamping wedding on the day of their civil ceremony, so fellow Cambridge wedding photographer Tom joined Ana and Doug to capture that day for them.
Bengali Wedding Ceremony
After photographing Ana’s initial preparations at home with her parents and grandfather, I headed over to Froyle Park in Hampshire to meet Doug arriving with his groomsmen and family. After the previous weeks civil ceremony in Cambridge included some of Doug’s Scottish heritage, the ceremony at Froyle Park would be a shortened Bengali Hindu ceremony, conducted by Hindu Priest, Amiya Bhattacharjee. After Ana’s arrival, she circled Doug seven times (Saat Pake) before removing her betal leaves to finally look at her groom. There then followed various wedding rituals, including the exchange of garlands and offerings to the sacred fire.
Wedding Breakfast at Harbour Hotel
After the wedding ceremony, the clear skies and sunshine lasted through the confetti and some family group photos, before the wedding party headed off to the Harbour Hotel in Guildford for the wedding breakfast. The changeable weather meant after a glorious afternoon, we were greeted with rain and hail during the wedding breakfast. I stayed to photograph the speeches and cake cutting before my coverage came to an end.
