A Sunny London Wedding
A sunny mid August Saturday found me providing the RSA House wedding photography at the distinctly London RSA House (Royal Society for the Arts). It’s a beautifully atmospheric venue in the heart of London. It was a busy day in the capital. My coverage began early in the morning with Nathalie and Peter’s small family ceremony at Southwark Registry Office. That was the prelude to an altogether more grand celebration at the RSA later in the afternoon.
Preparations Overlooking Parliament
But before I got to photograph there, I captured Nathalie and the bridesmaids getting ready at London’s Park Plaza Hotel, right on the River Thames with an amazing view of Parliament and the river. It so happened to be the day of the 70th anniversary of VJ Day, victory over Japan in the Second World War. As a result, London was buzzing with tourists. Members of the public keen to watch the Flypast over nearby Horseguards Parade. I kept one eye on the time and one on the sky, hoping to be able to build a little of the historic day into the wedding photography. In the end, fate wasn’t on my side. The flypast coincided exactly with the moment that Nathalie appeared in her wedding dress before her Father for the first time. In the words of her Father, “Wow. Now that’s worth missing the Red Arrows for!”, and he was absolutely right!
A Stunning London Wedding Venue
I then joined Peter and the rest of the guests at RSA House and awaited Nathalie’s arrival. The ceremony was in the historic Great Room. It’s dominated by James Barry’s “Progress of Human Knowledge and Culture”, a beautiful backdrop to the Humanist Ceremony. The reception was in the Vaults, a great atmospheric space featuring 18th Century brickwork. I also witnessed the Oyster Meister in action for the first time. It’s a mobile one man Oyster Shucker delivering fresh shellfish to every guest!
We took a stroll into Embankment Gardens for some portraits and family group photos. Then returning to the wedding breakfast in the Benjamin Franklin Room. Finally on to the First Dance and evening partying back in the Vaults.
