Heron Country Club Wedding Reception
Emma and Mihir’s wedding day began with a relaxed morning in Shenfield before everyone gathered later for their Heron Country Club Wedding Reception. This was the first part of their multi day celebration, with the Hindu ceremony still to come, and it already felt closely connected to the family. I photographed Mihir’s sister Susha’s wedding some years ago, so stepping into this day felt familiar, with many recognisable faces and the same warm atmosphere.

The day opened with Emma getting ready with her bridesmaids and family. The house had the usual pre ceremony rhythm, people moving between rooms, checking timings, fixing small details and keeping the morning running smoothly. It was an easy space to photograph with plenty of natural moments and no need to direct anything. I then travelled to St Mary’s Church where Mihir was greeting guests as they arrived for the ceremony.
The Church of England service at St Mary’s was traditional and steady, led by Rev Elise. A reading from Corinthians brought a quiet pause before Emma and Mihir walked back down the aisle to a lively reaction from everyone in the pews. Outside, guests gathered in autumn light for confetti which made for some great frames that fit the documentary approach well.
A documentary approach at St Mary’s and on the way to Heron Country Club
With the confetti finished, we moved into the family groups and a few portraits around the church. St Mary’s has a good amount of space to work in, so we were able to move between sets quickly without losing the natural flow of the afternoon. Between the formal frames there were plenty of small interactions and moments worth photographing, the sort of unscripted conversations and movements that give context to the day.
Once everything at the church was complete, guests made their way onto the red double decker bus for the journey to Heron Country Club. I followed on to the venue where the layout and light suited a documentary approach well. The club has wide outdoor areas and clean, consistent light which helps the reception settle into its own rhythm.
