Hindu Ceremony at Braxted Park
A Hindu Ceremony at Braxted Park offers a magnificent blend of traditional ritual and grand architectural beauty within a stunning Essex estate. For Emma and Mihir, this exclusive-use venue became the vibrant stage for their multi-session celebration, combining the elegance of the manor with the rich, colourful traditions of a Hindu wedding. As a documentary photographer, my goal was to record the day as it unfolded, capturing the energy and sincere emotion of each ceremony while ensuring the couple remained fully present in the moment with their families.
Morning Preparations
The morning began with a dual focus as Emma and Mihir prepared for the day in separate areas of the estate. Emma’s preparations took place in the dedicated Bridal Changing Room, while Mihir was joined by his family. This early part of the day is vital for documentary coverage; it allows for the capture of quiet, anticipatory moments before the high energy of the Baraat. As Mihir made his grand entrance, the Pokhvanu (welcome ceremony) provided a wonderful opportunity to document the lively interactions between both families as they merged for the start of the formal proceedings.
Authentic Rituals and Vibrant Traditions
The ceremony itself was held in the atmospheric setting of the Pavilion, where every ritual – from the couple’s entrances to the playful Koda Kodi at the conclusion – was documented with an unobtrusive approach. A Hindu Ceremony at Braxted Park is a feast of colour and movement, and the documentary style is perfectly suited to this environment. Rather than directing the action, I worked to capture the genuine smiles and focused intensity of the rituals. Following the ceremony, we made use of the beautifully manicured grounds of the Braxted Park Estate for a few couple portraits. By working quickly and naturally, we ensured the photography felt like a relaxed part of the afternoon rather than a formal production.
Celebrating into the Night
As the day transitioned into the evening, the celebration moved into the wedding breakfast and speeches. Braxted Park’s grand spaces allowed the guests to socialise freely, creating a wealth of candid moments for the camera. The speeches provided a blend of laughter and sincere reflection from both families, leading into the cutting of the cake and the first dance. For Emma and Mihir, having a Hindu Ceremony at Braxted Park meant they could celebrate their heritage and their future in one of the most beautiful locations in Essex, all while knowing that the true, unscripted story of their wedding was being preserved forever.
