Wedding at Jesus College Cambridge
Sonia and Tim started planning their wedding at Jesus College Cambridge well before the Covid-19 pandemic. Once the restrictions became clear, plans changed to a shorter wedding ceremony and family meal this year, with plans for a larger celebration next year. This sensible change is popular with couples this year, and has been working out really well. I’m still able to tell a super story in documentary wedding photography, even if only there for a couple of hours, to photograph the ceremony and some quick portraits and family group photos. If it’s possible to capture some of the preparations before hand, and the start of any family meal later, it can still make a compelling story.
Wedding Preparations in Cambridge
I started the story with the end of Sonia and Tim’s preparations. They were both getting ready with their families at a large house in Cambridge. The restrictions in place at the time allowed both families to be together in the same house, and I was able to document it for them as well. Once ready, I headed over to Jesus College for the wedding ceremony.
Cambridge Colleges make super venues for wedding ceremonies and receptions. The chapel at Jesus College is the oldest in Cambridge with its origins a 12th Century Norman Church. It’s served as part of Jesus College since 1496 and still hosts daily services during term time. It made a stunning setting for Sonia and Tim’s marriage ceremony.
Wedding Portraits at Jesus College
After the ceremony we took a little time for some family group photos before taking a walk around the grounds for some portraits. The college has lots of memories from their time in Cambridge as students, so these portraits will be valuable to them as they start their married life together. We then re-joined the rest of the family back at the house where, after a confetti entrance into the garden, my coverage ended.
