Chelsea Old Town Hall and Little Italy Wedding
Nigel and Noreen’s Chelsea Old Town Hall and Little Italy wedding began at The Goring Hotel, a stunning setting before heading off to Chelsea Old Town Hall for the ceremony. I caught the end of Nigel getting ready and then continued with the final preparations with Noreen. We then hopped in the Rolls Royce for the short trip to Chelsea Old Town Hall where family and guests were gathering for the wedding ceremony. Nigel’s a very successful news photographer in London, and I first met him when I was photographing news at The Times. They wanted relaxed, story-telling photography for their wedding, so I knew we’d be a great fit. It was good to catch up with some other news photographers as well.
A Classic London Ceremony at Chelsea Old Town Hall
Chelsea Old Town Hall, with its elegant Edwardian architecture and rich history, provided a fitting backdrop for Nigel and Noreen’s civil ceremony. The building’s character and charm added a sense of occasion, while the relaxed format of the day kept things informal. After the ceremony, we made the most of the iconic steps outside for some quick group shots and a few relaxed portraits before heading off through central London.
Why Chelsea Old Town Hall Works So Well
Chelsea Old Town Hall is a popular choice for couples looking for a civil ceremony in central London – and it’s easy to see why. The main chamber has tall windows, parquet flooring and a sense of scale that lifts even the simplest ceremony. It’s a building with presence, without being grandiose. The location is another big plus. Tucked just off the King’s Road, it’s minutes away from pubs, restaurants, and photo spots along the Thames. From a photographer’s perspective, the natural light in the ceremony room is excellent, and the wide stone steps outside make it easy to gather guests for pictures without needing to stage anything.
Celebrations at Little Italy, Soho
The reception took place at Little Italy in Soho—a lively venue that mirrored the energy and personality of the couple. Guests travelled on a classic red double-decker bus, a nod to London’s street life and a fun way to move through the city. At the restaurant, speeches were sharp and unsentimental, full of sharp wit and laughter. With great food, a buzzing atmosphere and the kind of laid-back feel the couple wanted, it was the perfect end to a London wedding that didn’t follow the script.
