Winter Wedding in Tetbury
This was the middle of five December weddings for me. I was really looking forward to Lucy and Cameron’s Great Tythe Barn wedding photography in Tetbury. It’s a fabulous 16th Century stone barn set in a couple of hundred acres of private land. I’d love to return here for a summer wedding some time to make the most of the grounds and Cotswold setting.
The weather wasn’t icy and cold. But most of this wedding the week before Christmas was set inside the Great Tythe barn.
I started my documentary wedding photography with Lucy. She was in one of the self catering cottages where she was getting ready with some of her bridesmaids. Everything at the Great Tythe Barn is in one location. This meant I could pop out every now and then to photograph Cameron and the guys getting ready. I also photographed some of the room details in the barn. As I haven’t photographed a wedding at this venue before, it was great fun finding all the little places for some interesting wedding photojournalism.
Lighting at a Winter wedding
Lighting, as is usually the way with winter weddings, presented some challenges. But nothing I couldn’t overcome. Low level ambient winter light is often useful for adding a little bit of atmosphere to a set of wedding pictures. After the ceremony we took advantage of the last of the daylight for some group photos before heading back into the Tythe barn to continue the wedding reception.
Some great speeches led to the evening entertainment and the first dance which is where my coverage ended.
