A Day in the Life With The Ray Family
A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of spending some time with good friend and fellow wedding photographer Nick Ray and his lovely family. The aim was to produce some documentary family photography for them, as a record of where they are as a family in 2017. It’s a great way to capture a family, in a journalistic and documentary way. There’s no posing or pretending – it’s all just natural photography showing a typical day in the life. My day with the Ray Family began at lunch time and continued through he afternoon. I photographed their tea time, baths and then stories before bedtime.
Building Dens
Willoughby and Bertie are super natured children, and we had a lot of fun going for a walk in the nearby woods and building dens. Documentary family photography can be quite challenging for a photographer. It really is a case of being two steps ahead of the action. Things move quickly and if you haven’t anticipated early enough, then you’ll probably miss the picture. Fortunately Willoughby and Bertie are fairly similar to my young children. That meant I could use my own experiences to try to spot the possibility for pictures and try and get in a good position to capture the moment. There were snacks and Lego, baths and a few tears. By the time I said goodnight, we’d recorded a little slice of life in the Ray household.
