St Etheldreda’s Church Wedding Photographer

This ancient and atmospheric church really is a hidden gem in the heart of the capital. It’s history dates back to the 13th Century, and has been part of the Catholic Church since 1874. St Etheldreda’s Church is located right in the centre of London within a stones throw of Hatton Garden (where you might have browsed some engagement rings!). The church was originally the chapel for the London residence of the Bishops of Ely, hence it’s location on Ely Place. Now hosting Catholic mass as well as Baptisms and Weddings, it’s a great city centre location for a London wedding. Being based in nearby Hertfordshire, I’m fortunate enough to be the St Etheldreda’s Church wedding photographer several times a year. Couples who love my unobtrusive style of documentary wedding photography book me so they can get on with enjoying the festivities with their family and friends, while I worry about making beautiful compositions to capture the spirit of their day.

Wedding Party In The Crypt

Newly-wed couples can continue to celebrate their marriage by holding their wedding reception in the Crypt below the church. The catering is run by the superb Bleeding Heart Restaurant at the end of Ely Place, and their attention to detail will ensure your party is one to remember. It is a dark venue, and getting the right photographer to capture the atmosphere in the Crypt is essential. Low light photography is my specialism, and I don’t need to use extra lighting for most of the time. This mean you and your guests can get on with the celebrations while being unaware of the photography – essential for the natural way I capture people at their best.

Low Light Wedding at St Etheldreda’s London Tara and Mark enjoyed an atmospheric low light wedding at St Etheldreda’s London just before Christmas. It’s the oldest Catholic church in London, and one of my favourite venues for natural, low light wedding photography. Getting Married at St Etheldreda’s London

For a Catholic couple in the capital, getting married at St Etheldreda’s London is a great experience. Just a short distance form London’s famous diamond district of Hatton Garden, many couples will have shopped for an engagement ring and never noticed this stunning church just around the corner. This hidden gem was a spiritual sanctuary for the Middle Ages, starting as the town chapel of the Bishops of Ely from the 13th century.

Winter Wedding at St Etheldreda’s Church, Ely Place

Winters in London can really produce some stunning photography, especially from a Winter Wedding at St Etheldreda’s Church. It can be very hard work, in low light environments, with mixed light sources. It makes it harder to focus and requires slower shutter speeds making blur a possibility. But I think that’s what makes it so exciting and exhilarating as a documentary wedding photographer.

Low Light Wedding Photography Being the photographer at Nigel and Eliza’s St Eltheldreda’s Church wedding was both fun and photographically challenging. The planning for their London ceremony started from their home in Singapore. They knew they wanted documentary style of photography with minimal orchestration. They also knew they needed a photographer who could work well in very low light. Although…
