Tithe Barn Wedding Photography – It’s Not Really A Job
Wedding photography for me isn’t really a job. I know it’s a bit of a cliche to say stuff like that – I’ve been passionate about photography since I was three etc etc. Whilst I wasn’t born clutching a Leica, I do really love photography. And love the way I work as a documentary wedding photographer. Quietly recording the day in a couple’s life that is sure to be the most significant of their lives together. And it’s true – if you love the job you do, you’ll never end up doing a days work in your life!
So it was a real joy when Laura approached me for their Tithe Barn wedding photography. Because I already knew that she places an equally high value on photography. Laura had been following my work for some time, and I had enjoyed seeing some of her photography on Facebook and Twitter. So when she told me she was getting married, it was great to be her first choice as wedding photographer.
South Downs National Park Barn Venue
Laura and Dan had chosen The Tithe Barn near Petersfield in Hampshire for their wedding venue. I’m lucky enough to be commissioned to photograph weddings all over the UK and sometimes abroad. Whilst I had not photographed at The Tithe Barn before, it looked like a pretty special place. Set in the South Downs National Park, it’s a beautiful wedding venue surrounded by some of the finest English countryside in the South East.
My coverage started over at Laura’s parents house where she and the bridesmaids were getting ready. There was a fun, but involved game of Scrabble in progress when I arrived, and a nice relaxed atmosphere at the house. From the start, I had one eye on the weather, though not in the usual sense. Laura works for the Met Office and BBC Weather Centre as a weather forecaster and presenter. So knowing that weather was important to her, I wanted to try and incorporate that into the photography. Predictably, the weather on the day was entirely unusual, presenting very few photo opportunities! Fifteen degrees and a steady breeze of 15km/h makes for a lovely Spring day for a wedding, but no dramatic weather pictures!

I joined Dan and the guests at the Tithe Barn for the wedding ceremony. It’s a spacious venue, and whilst the interior lighting is challenging, especially where the ceremony is held, there were some great documentary moments to capture.
Here’s a selection of my favourite images from the wedding day. If you’re looking for a barn venue in the South East, or any other venue really, and like my unobtrusive approach to photographing a wedding, please get in touch to check my availability. I’d love to provide your Tithe Barn wedding photography, or any other venue! Some other Hampshire weddings you might enjoy – Froyle Park wedding photography or another Barn location in Hampshire.
