A Stunning London Hotel Venue
Here’s a favourite photograph of purple bridesmaid dresses from a Corinthia Hotel wedding I photographed a couple of years ago. Hui and Jing chose one of the best hotels in London for their wedding. The Ballroom at the hotel was the venue for the wedding breakfast, and it had been lit with purple uplighters. Now this kind of lighting can be really tricky to deal with as a photographer. But it’s important to use that colour in the photography.
Flower Girl and Purple Bridesmaid Dresses
While we were outside shooting the group photos, I was immediately drawn to the bridesmaids standing together. They were waiting patiently for their turn in the family group photos. The block of colour from the purple bridesmaid dresses looked amazing outside. It was a strong feature of the whole wedding. But it needed something else in the frame to make the image work. Time was limited, as I was also shooting the group photos. And as a documentary wedding photographer, I don’t move or arrange things, other than the actual group photos.
With one eye on the bridesmaids, I carried on with the family group photos. Then, one of Hui’s flower girls made her way past the bridesmaids. She found a gap, and stopped. I quickly moved over to get the picture, trying not to be too obvious, as eye contact here wouldn’t work. I was in the road, and using a 50mm lens, so the framing is a little tight, but I think this photograph works well for capturing the colour scheme, bouquets and bridesmaids.
